ABOUT US
REACH INC.
REACH, Incorporated,
launched in March, 1994, in San Diego, California. The word REACH is an acronym
for Research in Economics And Consultants in Human Development. Shortly after
being granted the 501(c)(3) status from the Federal Government, our initial
effort was focused on Early Childhood Education. One of our Officers had just
completed her Child Development Associate Credential along with a Director’s
Certification. She had been a licensee for a home Family Day Care facility and
had worked as a Case Aide for Children’s Hospital, Center for Child Protection.
She was very focused on the need for a viable, affordable Early Childhood Care
Center developing and implementing classroom curriculum for children aged 3-5
years old. A pilot program was presented to the Director of Canyonside Community
Park, City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department, for inclusion as a
service to the Rancho Penasquitos and surrounding communities. Bright Beginnings
was “born” in January, 1996, with the registration of 14 pre-school children.
The program continued to be a huge success during the next four
years.
Shortly after
implementing the Early Childhood Education Program, REACH initiated an
Affordable Housing Program. We focused this effort towards “Low and Moderate
Income Home Buyers” along with “First Time Homebuyers”. Our housing program was
certified by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) as a non-profit housing
provider. This certification by the FHA allowed REACH to purchase housing
inventory from the U.S. Government at a discounted rate. This discounted rate
allowed us to make adequate repairs where needed and still maintain a reasonable
pricing structure for the low income home buyer. This was a viable, much needed
program for many families trying to break into an expensive and high demand San
Diego housing market.
